Longitudinal Trust and Training - An Attention Management Perspective

Project funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) that looks at how training shapes people's mental models of systems and its subsequent effects on people's trust in a complex single operator multi-agent system.
This project assessed how people's mental model of a system, based on training, affects their calibration of trust in the system and their ability to monitor system performance. The figure below visualizes the link between training, attention management, and trust:
We conducted a longitudinal study to evaluate more closely these relationship over the course of a 6-week period. Participants received three different forms of training (baseline, classroom-style, and experiential learning) and were tasked with assisting and monitoring the performance of eight highly-autonomous, simulated unmanned aerial vehicles performing military reconnaissance and classification of adversarial targets.
